Run-on sentence (ROS)

You have probably run together two independent clauses. You need to separate them by a period or semicolon, or join them grammatically with a coordinating or subordinating conjunction.

Examples:

Wrong: “Husbandry” had several early modern meanings according to the Oxford English Dictionary there are three main meanings in use before 1500. [The first sentence should end after “meanings” or after “Dictionary.”]

Right: “Husbandry” had several early modern meanings according to the Oxford English Dictionary. There are three main meanings in use before 1500.

Right: “Husbandry” had several early modern meanings. According to the Oxford English Dictionary, there are three main meanings in use before 1500.
