  • Exercise:
    • Open a new template XML file using a Framework template: File / New… / Framework templates / TEI / simplePrint 
    • Look for the:
      • XML declaration 
      • The schema and schematron associations 
      • The root element 
      • The namespace attribute and value. 
    • We are going to encode the part of the TEI file first, following the instructions in 3.3.1 of the “Introduction to TEI simplePrint.” At any point, you can click on hyperlinks in the documentation for the TEI simplePrint customization to go to the full TEI guidelines.
      • We are going to use the empty <pb/> to capture information about the page number of the sonnet. 
      • Elements to use:
        • <lg> linegroup 
        • <l> line 
        • <rhyme> 
      • Attributes to use:
        • @rhyme 
        • @label 
      • Once you are done, members of Team 73 share sonnets with Team 130 (and vice versa) so that everyone has two encoded sonnets in their file. Do whatever you need to do to bring the encoding of the two sonnets into conformity. 
      • Use <div> and <head> to organize your sonnet collection and give each one a title. 
      • Use the @facs attribute on the <pb/> element to link to the digital surrogates. 
      • Give each div an @xml:id attribute that will help identify the Sonnet. (Whatever decision you make, it has to be scalable to all 154 sonnets. 
    • Now we are going to encode the metadata in the
      • Give your file a title 
      • Give the <title> element two sibling <respStmt> elements. Follow the prompts provided by the schema. Make sure you give credit to the person who encoded the other sonnet. 
      • Make up content for the <publicationStmt>

        • Wrap the URL in a <ref> tag and use the @target attribute to capture the URL 
    • Let’s see what our sonnets look like when we applied an XSLT transformation.
      • Go to the icon of the wrench with the red arrow. Find the TEI P5 Transformation Scenarios. Try at least to see what your sonnets look like in an output format.
